Static [Horror]

Static is a focused project on creating a Vertical Slice using the Horror Engine in UE4 Marketplace, with inspiration drawn from the Resident Evil series.

 

The project aims to emphasize atmosphere, level flow, and puzzles. The story revolves around a young news reporter investigating an anomaly surrounding an abandoned home in the forest to achieve a breakthrough in their career. ​The project involved designing the level layout, flow, verticality, environment, architecture, enemy AI implementation, collectible/element placements, and color-coding key elements for visibility. Additionally, it included creating hidden places to be discovered, immersive spontaneous puzzles, horror sequences such as lights breaking and flickering, jumpscares, and crafting an unsettling ambiance. The process also involved developing game/level design documents and thorough playtesting to ensure optimal gameplay and scale.

Skills:​​

• Design the level: layout, flow, Verticality, Environment & architecture in block out. Additionally going through scaling iterations, enemy AI implementation, collectible/element placements & colour coding key elements for visibility in block out.

• Using in house tools, I created a hidden place to be discovered by a portal, creating an immersive spontaneous puzzle. Alongside adding horror sequences (lights breaking, flickering, jumpscares) and room to create an unsettling ambiance. ​​

• Made Game/Level Design documents to see through the process.

 

• Thorough playtesting to ensure optimal gameplay and scale.
